General Statement of Duties

Collaborates with the Communications Director and County Officials in developing written, photographic, video and other materials designed to serve the County’s public communication needs, utilizing a variety of professional methods including working with local news media and social media platforms; assists County departments in creating and implementing communications plans and materials; and performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties

Extensive knowledge, experience and demonstrated expertise in:  

    Government communications

    English language, grammar and writing for publication, including familiarity with AP Style  

    Creating engaging text and photo content for social media platforms (FB, X/Twitter, Instagram, Nextdoor, YouTube)

    Writing news releases, speeches for public officials and scripts for video productions 

    Managing communications projects, including coordination of news conferences and news media events 

    Independently planning, coordinating and completing multiple social media campaigns simultaneously 

    Independently developing optimal posting schedules, utilizing web traffic and customer engagement metrics 

    Communicating effectively in crisis situations, including through social media

    Producing professional content on deadline   

    Responding to news media requests 

    Planning, coordinating and completing multiple assignments simultaneously  

    Online customer service and engagement skills 


Additional Information

Valid driver's license to perform assigned job duties at various locations Countywide.

Minimum Requirements

Four (4) year degree in journalism, photography, communications, or other relevant field preferred, and three (3) years of relevant public relations work experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
